Does anyone here have, or know someone that has a CJ-7 (specifically looking at an 85)?
My buddy has one that needs new shackles, but he's leaving the country for a year (2 total) on Saturday. He's left his Jeep at his sister's with the request that I drive it for him from time to time (darn!). The only thing I dislike about it is the rear shackles need to be replaced. I can make a new set, not a problem, but I didn't have a chance to take any measurements, short of the bolt spacing.
If you have a CJ-7 and can take measurements, or know where I can find the information/dimensions of the stock shackles, I'd greatly appreciate it.
On a side note, I intend to beef up the stock shackles a bit. It won't cost much more, if anything to do it, so why not, right?

So...I have a 1999 Jeep Wrangler with 120,820 miles on it with a constantly replacing-the-exhaust-manifold-leak-issu
e problem. It's in great shape and has some bells and whistles. A small (size of a playing card) dent in the drivers' side front fender flare. Immaculate interior and no serious mechanical issues.
I'd really like a newer model Wrangler w/o all the tubular exhaust problems (after 2001 they fixed it with a different exhaust system) and perhaps an automatic. My knee is starting to sound like someone is twisting plastic wrap every time I bend it.
I spotted a 2005 dark blue hard top wrangler. It's a 6 cylinder like mine and it is a former postal Jeep. The steering wheel is on the right side. It has a tinted top and the basics' options. The mileage is a skosh high...73,000. I believe it was a rural postal route jeep. But if it was a postal jeep then it would have been taken (mechanically) better care of than a private owner Jeep. I would want to take my wheels and my stereo head unit. That's all. The price is right and it wouldn’t change my payments much (slightly lower).
The situation is that I would be starting over with a new loan when the one I have now is within a year and a half to close. I am worried that if don’t trade now my Jeep will be too high mileage and paid off or not I won’t get what I want for trade in value on another Jeep.
I am a little confused...isn’t it only 20,000 miles a year average for mileage? If so mine is under for the 8 years old it is. (Math: 2007-1999 = 8 years old X 20,000 = 160,000 miles. Mine's 39,000 miles under that).
The dealers said I'm slightly upside-down (negative equity) and that a small down payment ($500) will sweeten the pot for financing. They also tried to talk me into a car/truck with a rebate so that I can balance out the negative equity.....
I'd really like to have this 2005 but I am not sure I want to start over with a car payment. I am also not sure about looking forward to replacing my 1999's exhaust manifold with a aftermarket header (Borla/Banks) to stop the exhaust manifold problem I am starting to have all over again. I am not sure if this is the best deal I can get...
Help! Advice, questions, suggestions? Current Mood: intimidated

I am on my second Jeep Wrangler in 12 years and the same damn problem has cropped up. I have an exhaust leak at the manifold. The Jeep suddenly got loud, the oil pressure has been a little running high, it idles high...all too familiar. My first was a 1994 4 cyl YJ. Now I have a 1999 6 cyl and it's doing the same thing. Ive been warned to get the leak fixed before it warps the heads or hurts the valves. Anyone else have the same problems? I tried to see it this is a recall but it isnt.I want to write Jeep/Chrysler but I think they wont give a crap. I do work for an amazing team of attorney's but I dont think this is the type of thing they'll handle.Crud...crud...crud..Any suggestions? People with the same problem?Help...I am so pissed.

My 93 Grand Cherokee Limited
Just joined this group and thought I would share my rides.
I currently own 2 jeeps a 93 ZJ and an 89 XJ.
My 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee (ZJ) Limited has a 4.0L 242 Inline-6 engine with the AW-4 Automatic Transmission and NP-249 (Quadra-Trac Version 1) Transfer Case. Modifications include:
* 2" Budge Boost Lift
* 31" Wrangler AT/S Tires
* Cobra 40-channel CB Radio
* Garmin 12-channel GPS Unit
* Kenwood AM/FM/CD Head Unit
* Baja Off-Road/Fog Lights

My 1989 Jeep Cherokee (XJ) Laredo has a 4.0L Non-H.O. Inline-6 with Auto Tranny and a NP-242 (Selec-Trac) Transfer Case.
It is currently out of service due to a fire and wiring harness issue. :(

My husband took me mudding for the first time in our Jeep yesterday, and I think I'm addicted now, it's so much fun!!
We only got stuck once, on a log, but another Jeep happened to be there and pulled the log out of the way so we got unstuck.

awwrightee...thought I'd save a few bucks and buy my Haynes manual at ebay. 3 WEEKS LATER. I get an apologetic...'mailed it the other day' excuse from the seller. I wanted to go ahead a start delving in and find out if I'm cherry or not. I am still waiting on the manual and I am very cagey about mechanics.
So far, I got the dealership to sign a 'WE OWE' (after purchasing the Jeep used at a lot) on the chipped windshield, the iffy door handle, and the leak from the AC into the passenger side footwell.
After I mentioned the leak to a 97 Wrangler owner he just told me look for a hose that should be attached to the firewall on the opposite side the glove box. He says it is missing. This coincides with what the Express Lube sweetheart owner/manager guessed was the problem but told me he was not sure.
My dealership is SOOOO stupid.
I am going to start trusting only other owners and try to find a personal mechanic if time and again the dealership inspires my homicidal side to come out to play.
Anyone experience with the leak? Is it truly a missing hose on the opposite side of the firewall? My first Jeep (owned 9 yrs) had no AC and I am not familiar with AC at all.

Just wanted to introduce myself!
I'm Kate in GA.
I am back in a Jeep! Through unfortunate circumstance, though. Yay! *does the happy dance hysterically* She's a sand gold Wrangler, 1999, 4.0 Liter, 6 cylinder, full-cage, black hard top, sound bar (Alpine system), 5-speed stick shift, with "okay" tow hitch. I got the studded aluminum wheels and some 31's.
I am SO happy! I am back! This is my second Jeep in 11yrs. I was stuck in an Escape for 1.5 yrs but it made me embrace my Jeep addiction even more!

Check out this Antique, one of a kind, 1980 Jeep CJ-5. The Jeep itself has roughly 145,000 miles but the REFURBISHED In-line 6 258 cb. in. engine has only 75,000 miles on it. I am only the fourth owner but in reality the third since its been in my family for 11 years. The second owner kept it as a weekend car in his garage for 10 years before that so there is no question that it has been taken care of. Meticulous maintenance records stored in acordion portfolio included. I hate to part with it but it's time to get something a little more economic as I turn the home stretch on my college career. we get a news letter at work and i read an article today that made me SUPER unhappy..... jeep will have 2 cars and a four wrangler in the 2007 jeep line up. a FOUR DOOR WRANGLER!!!! AND TWO CARS!!! jeep and cars dont go well together... comment on this and let me know what you think..... oh and for 2008 the grand Cherokee will be redesigned AGAIN

bad muddin trip
at like 930 my bro, calls and tells me to get ready to go muddin i said ok. so he came and picked me up. and we headed out to the pits. we couldnt get through the regular trail, so we took an other trail his buddy told him to take. we get bombin down it and notice a small snomobiling bridge and we tried make it across but the passenger side front and rear tire slipped off into this fregin 3 or four feet deep mud hole, i was like holy shit dude we cant get outta hear. so the other guy that was with us hooked his toyota up to us and got back in it to pull us out, he punched it and ripped my bros bumper off, the whole right side was mired in the mud, even the rear differential was under the mud, so we worked till bout 1:00 saturday morning. we went home till 9:00, we woke up and headed back out to try to get it unstuck, we had a full size toyota which a 3 inch lift and 33's on it, along with a gmc 1500 trying to pull it out, we ended up havin to build a little bridge, and reefin from the back bumper to get it out it ended up taking us till 1:00 in the afternoon. i got some sick pics of it stuck.
